How to use this calculator
- Use gross main-job pay, before withholding and contributions.
- Choose annual if you receive extra payments or varying monthly amounts.
- Check the interval. An amount exactly on a threshold belongs to the higher decile.
An example to check the calculation
Hypothetical conversion: €24,000 gross annually equals €2,000 gross per month averaged over the year. If you receive 14 payments, first add up the gross amount of all of them.
The formula, in plain sight
Comparable monthly gross = annual gross main-job earnings ÷ 12
Nine official thresholds assign one of ten intervals. Each decile contains approximately 10% of employees. An amount equal to a lower bound enters that decile; we do not interpolate a personal rank within it.
What it means and what it does not
Full-time and part-time earnings are combined without conversion. Self-employed and household incomes are not classified. A decile measures neither wealth nor wellbeing and does not give an exact percentile.

- Methodology
- Annual gross main-job earnings divided by 12. Extra salary payments are spread over the year. Part-time earnings are not converted to full-time equivalents. Lower bounds are inclusive and upper bounds exclusive; the nine published thresholds are rounded to €0.10. No exact percentile is estimated. Read INE methodology.
