An example to check the calculation
Hypothetical example: €1,800 net income minus €1,350 expenses leaves €450. Expenses represent 75% of income.
The formula, in plain sight
Monthly balance = net income − total expenses
Expenses as a share of income = expenses ÷ income × 100. The breakdown separates the share of income from the share of total expenses. With zero income, the former is undefined.
What it means and what it does not
The balance depends on including every expense. A positive balance is not guaranteed savings: unexpected payments may arise.
