Separate moving-in costs from ongoing costs
Editorial draft awaiting owner review. Excluded from indexing and the sitemap.
Moving involves two calculations: what you need upfront and your monthly budget afterwards. Examine them separately before combining them.
Upfront payments
Enter your expected deposit, first month's rent, moving, furniture and other upfront costs. We do not preload city rents or claim any particular deposit is legally required. Check these amounts against your circumstances and contract.
The cushion is a reserve for later
Choose how many months of expenses to retain after moving in. The formula multiplies this by monthly expenses. A first month already entered upfront is not added again automatically. The cushion stays separate so both needs remain clear.
Time depends on your contribution
Subtract current savings from the target and divide by your monthly contribution. Round up because part of a month's contribution may not complete the target. If covered, time is zero. If money is missing and there is no contribution, no timeframe is calculable.
Check what happens afterwards
Monthly headroom is net income minus expected expenses. Savings possible in your current home may be unsustainable after moving. A warning appears when your contribution exceeds future headroom, without preventing you from exploring the scenario. Investment returns and stable prices are not guaranteed or assumed.
Check the calculation
The tool includes a formula, an explicit example and sources. No registration or transmission of your amounts is needed.
