How to create a monthly budget you can review

A budget makes the calculation visible. No universal salary split works for every household.
Start with the same scope
If using household income, include all household expenses. For an individual budget, use your share of shared bills. Comparing one person's pay with the full rent of several people changes the result without any change in household finances.
Include payments that are not monthly
Divide an annual bill by twelve to set aside a monthly amount. Hypothetical example: €240 annually means €20 monthly. This helps planning but does not change the payment date. Do not count both the monthly provision and full bill in the same scenario.
Distinguish balance from savings
Income minus expenses gives an estimated balance, excluding anything you did not enter. If savings are listed as an expense, remember this when reading the remainder. A negative balance means entered expenses exceed income; it does not judge your effort or decisions.
Review one variable at a time
Save a card of your initial scenario if useful, change one expense and recalculate to see its effect. Amounts are not saved when the page closes. Keep the local image only if you need it and check it before sharing.
Check the calculation
